It Matters To Them...

Children outside their home
Children outside their home.

No child should have to live in a dirt-floored chicken shed. When it rains, raw sewage from the outhouse flows through the living area.

There is no sink or toilet, no electricity; forget about luxuries such as TV, telephone, fridge and stove. There isn't even running water.

Beans and rice, when available, is cooked by open pit fire. Rain water is collected in worn out plastic tubs, covered with bits of wood to keep mosquito larvae from forming.

Dengue disease and malaria are constant concerns.  Having extra money left over to send a child to school is the only luxury. This is how the majority of Nicaragua’s live right now.

It’s hard for you and I to imagine living conditions so impoverished; so painful and unfair. But that’s how it is!   80% of the world’s developing nations live this way. Nicaragua is no exemption.  Surprisingly, despite hard conditions, the human spirit prevails.

Nicaragua is where this present chapter of World Kids Foundation continues to aim its energy. Nicaragua is where together we can reach out and make some kind of a  difference, no matter how small that difference may be,  it matters big to them.

 OUR PURPOSE...

To provide continued support and improvements to Escuela Mundo de Los Ninos, a one-room school house located in a remote, ecologically-sensitive forest.

A school in Nicaragua July 2008

FUNDS & SPONSORORS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING...

  • 20 gallons of paint for the school’s interior and exterior.
  • Playground, swings, teeter-totter.
  • Soccer ball, volleyball and net.
  • School supplies.
  • Children’s uniforms and shoes. (many of the children do not have shoes).
  • Water tank and sink for washing hands.
  • World map, bookshelves and repairs to broken chairs and desks.
  • Several large plastic garbage cans for interior and exterior of the school.
  • Cork board.

  • Solar panels, deep-cycle batteries and enough electricity to provide power for the school.
  • TV/DVD player and educational documentaries in Spanish for the classroom. (To improve the quality of life in the village through a balance between nature and technology.)
  • Eight used laptops to expose the older students to the importance of learning how to use a computer.
  • Bags of cement to construct a small adobe for the teacher.
  • The teacher’s salary covered by the Ministero de Education is $150.  per month. WKF would like to match that salary.

 World Kids Foundation Wish List

  • World Kids Foundation project leaders do not have motorized transportation for hauling equipment, building materials, school supplies and volunteers to worksites.

We regularly rent transportation and depend on other people and their schedules to transport us. It is a slow cumbersome process.

A sponsorship of $14K would provide WKF with one used pickup truck and four scooters for local use.

  • We also would like to request funding for three more horses and saddles as horses are the main form of transportation in the jungle.

  • World Kids Foundation is at a stage now where affordable office space and equipment is needed to effectively represent our sponsors, donors and volunteers who believe in the spirit of reaching out with vision and action...

WKF is dedicated to promoting education and the empowerment of families in rural communities of Nicaragua and the protection of the environment with respect for cultural diversity, also to provide financial assistance to under privileged individuals with medical needs.
