 Family Matters...

Eric and Family

It has been an interesting couple of weeks/months – interminable visits from friends and family, long hot waterless days, power outrageous, countless trips to Managua, followed by skipped meals, late nights and early wake-ups. To cap it all off…I got married. Yes, after over ten years together with Rosio, and a lot of roll coaster rides…we officially tied the knot.  As far as weddings go, we had a nice one. The next goal is to get Rosio up to Canada for a mini-vacation and I guess you might say “miel de luna” or honey moon.  We’ve applied for her tourist visa to travel to Canada, it’s just a matter of time before it arrives. “IF” approved! Since I am not game fully employed…(yet) my brother Tony is doing the sponsorship for Rosio. Our three children have Canadian citizenship and CDN passports, the kids are set to go.

The Little Sewing Center That Could...

Tony and his family were recently in San Juan Del Sur. Everyone had a great time and like most…fell in love with Nicaragua. After all it is a great place to visit. I took them all out to Cangrejo on horseback to see the school and the little sewing center ‘that could”.  The ladies in the village had a line-up of beach bags ready for market. 100% made in Nicaragua.  Considering this is their first effort at sewing, the beach bags turned out… kinda okay. There is room for improvement and plenty of time to improve them.

 SAN JUAN DEL SUR

World Kids Foundation has been approached by numerous schools and organizations for help with various building projects. More information will be posted here on the website. For example the high school in San Juan Del Sur has a huge sewage sink hole near the basket ball court. A sewer line broke underground and created the sink hole of raw filth and stink. It is a dangerous breeding ground for bacteria and mosquitos. There is no money in the school budget to fix the sewer line, and the Nica ministry of education is unable to provide the necessary funds either. The principal and staff are pleading for help. The overall cost to repair the sewer line and cement over the sink hole is around $3000.

 CANGREJO

Improvements to the sewing center and elementary school in Cangrejo continue. Our aim to finish installing a more civilized washroom facility for the school, and complete the water tank and plumbing for the teachers quarters and sewing center. There is no electricity in the village, our dream goal is to install solar panels for the sewing center, teacher’s quarters and school. It may not happen anytime soon…but one day it will! My word is on it!

 REACH OUT

Alba and Martin Juan Granado’s little 5 year old son, Rommy, fell off a horse and broke his arm. This happened weeks ago and the arm has now fused and calcified into a 90 degree lock. WKF with gracious support from Dawson Creek Sunrise Rotary  towards the sewing center, we can also help the Granado family pay the costs of the boys needed surgery. Last week, Martin and Alba brought their son to the hospital in Rivas for X-rays. If all goes according to Nicaraguan schedule, an operation is scheduled for May 14th.

Thank you friends. Stay well and stay in touch here and across the miles.
