WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME |
||
Hi Mates, Well I arrived in Managua a few days ago. Though I normally fly with Taca, I’d have to say the flight with Continental went without a hitch; a bit long from YXC to YVR to IAH to MGA but hey… all good! Gotta love those Rocky Mountains! In transit, the nice lady at the ticket counter issued me a window seat for the rest of the flight to Nicaragua. |

And so while FLT 1774 is preparing to land in Managua, I’m looking out the window at the capital of Central America’s humblest nation. 3000 ft below and 3 minutes to landing there are miles of shacks, shanties, barrios, dusty streets, poverty and disorganized chaos. |

Two minutes to landing. |
I ask myself, “What am I doing? Why am I back in this third world nation thinking I can fix the unfixable?” But then, what about all the souls in the shanties below? One minute to landing… the stewardess is announcing all passengers must turn off their electronic devices. I'll stay in Managua for the night and catch up with Rosio and the kids tomorrow morning. |

I think of the story of the little boy who is walking the beach, picking up stranded starfish and tossing them back in the sea. It is true, “if we can’t help them all, we can at least help one”. Okay mates, take care for now. I’ll have more news for you shortly. Capt Eric For the love of life… |
